As the army finally approached closely to Caston, he realized that they were monsters. Their right arms were massive, while the left had long, jagged claws. They had broken into two groups, feeling the wind of the tornado. They were at least somewhat intelligent.

Caston's tornado had reached impressive power, and he unleashed it. He sent it in the direction of the group on the right, hoping it would devastate them as completely as possible. Caston was mentally taxed from conjuring such a spell, so he tossed his pack aside and drew his staff. They cried his name, he wondered for a fraction of a second how in the world they could know who he was. It was of little importance.

He widened his stance, planted his feet, and dared the monsters to attack.

Johath woke, and felt something wet touching his cheek. "What the?" He opened his eyes, and standing next to him was a horse. There was nobody around. "Well, that'll make my journey into a couple of days, rather than a week." He cpacked up his equipment, got on the horse, and rode North, towards Windrow.

The Giant saw the orcs split into to groups. He swore under his breath. He chose the one closest to him to keep following. When Caston unleashed a tornado at the furthest one, he immediately came crashing through the woods at the orcs.

"AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"

"I guess that's my cue." Delon said under his breath. He saw the giant storm off to the group closest to them, and decided he could handle himself. Caston he was not so sure about. He postioned himself about 10 yards from the group closest to Caston, and prepared to lunge his daggers into the back of one of the orc-like creatures.

Name: Aldrin White
Age: 24
Occupation: Mercenary-for-hire, Traveling Merchant when he's out of a job
Appearance: Wears a black cloak over a dark green tunic, colored to best blend in with foilage. Short brown hair, dark blue eyes, constantly has stubble no matter how often he shaves.
Equipment: All under cloak: A quiver capable of holding twenty-four self-crafted arrows, a survival knife with holder on left hip, small pack on lower back for carrying food and drink, and a shortbow.
Abilities: Expert archer, highly-capable survival skills due to constant traveling.

Personality and Background... I'll fill those over time in my posts.

IC: Or'cara? This many of them, in the woods? Ridiculous, thought Aldrin as he approached a struggle. This could only be the work of a man with an army of them at his disposal. If so, who was being attacked? It mattered little. They were blocking the road, and past experiences had taught him that traveling through the forest did not end in the best of ways.

It was settled, he decided. He began to quickly move along the thinner forest next to the road towards the squabble.

Tahu Millenun re-read the letter to make sure he hadn't missed something. No, there was no magic at work besides the usual spell-cipher for memos, and no, it wasn't a joke.
To Tahu Millenun:
We are planning for a new student to arrive at the Institute in a few days. His name is Caston Carnaly, and from our reports he is a blue mage. Until he is assigned a permanent schedule, lodging, and curriculum, you will be responsible for looking after him.
At the bottom was the mark of the Headmaster, though Tahu knew it wasn't from him personally, just from someone in his office. Great. More work. Tahu had enough to do with his studies already, and wasn't the type to appreciate company, especially that of strangers. Plus, he was a red mage. Why were they assigning a blue mage as his understudy? Out of boredom and frustration, Tahu conjured a small flame and made it dance around his desk, never touching anything flammable. Deciding to practice, he pulled out a clay bowl and put the flame in it. After changing its color, shape, and size for a bit, he added a few more to the mix.

Upon seeing the giant threat (largely thanks due to hearing it), the group nearest the giant gave a cry of "Gi-i-i-iga-a-a-as!" as they began a desperate lunge at him, reaching out to wrestle his axes from his hands with their strong arms while the clawed sides attempted to hack away at his arms.

Meanwhile, during the approach to Caston, two Or'cara noticed Delon approaching. With the same kind of screeching cry of "De-e-elo-o-on!", the two broke from the group (leaving three for Caston) to charge, hoping to match knife length with claw length.

As Dusk watched the battle proceed, another tinge of power reached his sight. Someone on horseback was riding to Windrow, but from the opposite end of city. "Hm... Caston seeks aid, and even I can not outrun a horse without expending energy..."

Even amidst forming an idea to deal with that threat, eyes not of his own fell on Caston. A well hidden warrior, probably a mercenary or hunter, seemed to be keeping an eye on the fight while avoiding it. "I can ignore him for now... The man on horseback could serve as a valuable asset." Removing the orb's eye from the fight, Dusk swept his gaze through Windrow's magic academy. There, he found an ideal youth of great dark power but a weak mind. The class itself was in a recess, giving him time to act as he focused the orb's connection to the lad's mind.

"The owner of that academy seeks not to properly train you. The dark arts are fine, mysterious, and misunderstood... That man is afraid of them. As he should be; you do not need him to explore the powers within you. I have, if you so may choose, transportation approaching from the south; a man on a horse, dressed in dirty clothing and donning black hair. Set fire to that wretched, biased academy and seek that man. Offer to take his horse to the stable, and ride off with it should he give the beast to you."

Setting the seed of mutiny in the boy's mind, Dusk took a break from scanning the world through his orb, allowing his own mind to settle. A meal, and some meditation was in order.

The orcs were all around the Giant. Before they had attacked they spoke a word he had never heard before..."Gigas..." what could it mean? No time to think now. He swung both axes like a mad man. His eyes had completely clouded over, and his smile was fierce. The orcs tried to grab his axes out of his hands, but when one did, he'd hack it with the opposite hand's axe. One tried to claw his leg, so he kicked it square in the mouth.

"Joy, I've been spotted" Delon said to himself, while cursing profusely. "Time for a little magic of my own!" he yelled, grabbing a handful of powder from his sash and hurling it at the ground. A loud BANG, capable of getting a deaf-man's attention, and a blinding flash capable of hurting a blind-man's eyes erupted from the spot. Within a second, Delon was gone and already at Caston's side.

"Glad you could make it." he said to Caston with a smirk.

OOC: A little late for this, but, my character resembles a Sandbender from avatar, except without the sleeves/hand grips, and without the upper part of the mask.

As he passed the battle, an orc turned its head in his direction. Knowing he had been detected, Aldrin stopped. It couldn't be helped. His client was an impatient man and breaking his stride any longer could force him to stay in the woods for the night, but he could not allow a potential chase to occur.

Quickly discarding his cloak, Aldrin took his bow and nocked an arrow, pointing it between the trees at the orc that spotted him. His aim was true, and it fell, the others rushing obliviously past towards their targets.

OOC: Woo, I just wanna say that this RP is going really well, I'm having a lot of fun, thanks to everyone who joined!

@ Top: Yeah, you better join in...was gonna send a PM your way had you taken much longer...

@Tahu: Your motive is *perfect*, it makes my life about 1000x easier...

Also, names for the RP, throw them at me. I'm drawing a blank on this one.

BIC: Caston stood his ground as the Monsters approached. He watched silently as the giant came roaring out of the forest and engaged the far group or beasts, the ones Caston had attacked with the tornado. Then, there was a flash and bang near the second group, and before Caston could recover from the blast, Delon was at his side. Caston grinned.

"Shall we, then?" He said, charging the Or'cara and whirling his staff. He aimed to crack them on the head, and he was indeed taller then they were with the advantage of a long staff. He hoped they wouldn't reach him.

Johath continued heading North. He reached the forest with a few hours of daylight left. "Well, this horse is faster than I expected, and I haven't even been pushing it. I'll continue on. Normally, it takes half a day to get through the forest, even on the road. Time to push this horse." With that little soliloquy, Johath pushed forward, hoping to reach the city before nightfall. He didn't want to be in the forest at night, even with his guns and burner.

"We shall." Delon's face turned from a wide-eyed grin, to a face of unmatched concentration. He looked towards Or'cara, pointed a finger at him and taunted with "your mine."

And with that, he took off towards the Or'cara, blades ready to mutilate the left, clawed arm first.

OOC: You'd be more than welcome, but I wouldn't advise it if you're not going to control your character yourself, you know? Key word here is "role play".

Aldrin, having redonned his cloak, continued through the trees. No more than fifteen seconds later, he heard loud yells. Peering through the bush, he saw a giant of a man fighting off Or'cara.

"Aksol? Aksol!" Aldrin looked to his right to see a woman in a dully coloured outfit and apron standing on a doorway. She was calling out to someone. "Goodness, Aksol! How many times to I have to tell you!"

Aldrin's eyes followed her as she stormed towards the largest man he had ever seen. No... not a man. A boy. He was merely a boy, yet he was at least twice the size of the woman, who Aldrin presumed to be his mother from her tone. He couldn't be a giant... giants were dangerous folk, and far bigger than this. Besides, the outpost west on the river was put into place solely to prevent giants from leaving their hills and threatening towns like Rurm.

The boy's size had distracted Aldrin from two men escorting him. One was dressed like a knight, in full body armour and complete with a massive sword. The other, with a robe, long staff and a bracelet of charms around his arms, could only be a wizard. A blue mage, most likely due to his collected stance.

"Maam," the knight started, and his voice grew quiet, too quiet for Aldrin to hear. But upon closer inspection, he saw the gleam of red on the gigantic boy's hands, and knew at once what was going on.

Unable to watch any longer, Aldrin continued to walk as the woman howled in grief behind him and fell to her knees.

Shaking off the memory, Aldrin took another look at the large man. The boy from his memory, Aldrin had later discovered, was a half-giant. Was this man the same?

Just who were these people?

The Or'cara in front, closest to Caston, knew he would be dead for defending his comrades, but still knew something had to be done. Reaching with its strong arm, it caught the staff as it came down and (despite the pain) pulled at it, hoping to bring Caston into its own claws. The two remaining kept dashing forward, left arms reared back for striking as those Delon left behind looked around confused until one was shot down.

(Note, if I'm confused about which ones died exactly, just go with what works for you.)

The giant's problem continued, despite one dead and one winded. Two managed to hold onto the handle of his axes or his wrists, and were preparing a full-fledged plunge of their claws into his arms in hopes of removing his hands from the equation.
