Nick thought about it for a moment, was there really a chance that Stephanie did this?

"Whose house was on fire? Anyone we know, or anyone that she hates?"

"Neither of theirs.. it is a loose connection, I know. My best evidence is that she is gone, and the house would have been close on the way Erin normally takes home...

I was thinking though. They only tend to eat there on special occasions. Such as how Stephanie wanted to take me there.. and if I was not there, it would explain it being quote, 'a disaster'. If people left early I know how Stephanie would get. Erin and her fight frequently too... so if she left early ...

I know they would get into a shouting match the whole way back... but as for how either could start a fire that major so fast, or then how it would freeze like that I can hardly explain. Best I know is that Stephanie smokes sometime, but I doubt that would start it." Tabitha says moving into the house leaning against the front entrance stair rails. "I know it sounds crazy. After recent events I just have more of an open mind about what is possible."

Shane was pondering what could've developed. Doubtful she found some kind of hair at the scene, but by proxy of finding out about the fire, she might have also found out something about the ice. Shane was genuinely intrigued the possibility, reflected by a little more activity in class as his thoughts buzzed. For better or worse, Shane was mapping out everyone's potential involvement in everything related to the recent incidents and trying to complete a puzzle.

Aside from leftover people wanting to peg him for questions about yesterday, little happened to Shane on his way out of class and on the path back to Tabitha's house. Shane was thankful the road was a short one, given he was a bit unfamiliar with the location, but the havoc-strewn house being so many down the road from hers certainly made a good landmark to help him know which door to walk up to and knock. Rare for him, he stopped his music and slid his headphones down to hang around his neck while waiting for the response at the door.

"Well judging from the smoke, I doubt a cigarette would make a house go up so quickly. But that's besides the point. What if we focused on the ice? How could that happen? And what about the gun shots? You don't think Stephanie..."

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

"I'll let you get it," he said to Tabitha.

The rest of Quinn's classes went pretty much the same way as the first; he felt like the object of scrutiny by assorted gossipers, but even when someone asked him a question directly, he really didn't have any juicy info that they'd have wanted. He received Tabitha's text mid-way through a class, and after spending the next couple of classes wondering if he should go or not, Quinn finally decided that it would be pretty stupid to duck out on them, and that he'd see all of this (whatever "this" was) through to the end.

Once classes ended, Quinn skipped getting in line for his bus and began walking in the direction of Tabitha's house. Luckily, he still recalled his walk there and back the previous day, and knew which way to go. As he turned off of the sidewalk and strode up the front path, he saw Shane knock at Tabitha's front door, in what could only be considered extremely convenient timing.

Tabitha opened the door to let Shane and Quinn in. "Hey. I am glad you could make it." She says letting them in.

"Well like I said to Nick. I was mapping out where the fire was when I heard about what happened with Stephanie, and then Erin leaving suddenly.. What I found was the path Erin would take home is right in line with the burning house and is close proximity to the restaurant... but still the cause of the fire is a mystery as is the instant freeze."

She stops for a moment getting back to the question Nick had. "The gunshots I found out were from the M4carbine which I believe is fairly common for SWAT teams. The worst case scenario is Erin was the target of this, as far as why.. I have no idea, but walking speed from there would put her in the area at that time. Stephanie always has to have the last word, so it seems likely she would follow her if an argument happened. That is what I could figure out for now, unless you found anything out at school today." She says back to them.

While they respond she partially zones out. If I my father has kept it a secret about me,.. How can I trust them to know even. If anyone found out who knows what would happen. Maybe this is why father never let me join sports teams... as far as I know I am the only one. She leans back to rest against the railing and misses entirely falling to the ground.

Quinn took in Tabitha's explanation, thinking carefully about everything she mentioned. "So the theory is...Stephanie got mad and trailed Erin home...and set fire to a random house along the way? I mean, the facts you found are great, but yeah, there's a piece or two missing."

He swallowed before continuing. It had taken until that afternoon, but one of Quinn's questioners had finally let slip that Erin Brown had moved away that day. "And...about Erin being the target of the gunshots for a worst-case scenario...I heard she moved today? Would Stephanie, or one of Stephanie's...uh...groupies, or someone have Erin's cell phone number? That's one thing we could actually settle, right?"

At that point, Tabitha fell over backwards, probably intending to lean on the stairwell railing that was still a couple of feet away. "Oh jeez, are you okay?" Quinn said, stepping forward and extending an arm to help her up.

Tabitha looked over herself checking that she was fine. "Appears so." She grabs his hand to stand up. "I am fine, thank you.. but.. anyway I was thinking that what if the people who all leave without warning really did not simply leave. Like I am afraid if we keep looking into this it may uncover something terrible."

Charlie got home, thinking about what Stephanie ahd said. He decided to do a few little experiments. He grabbed a pop-tart, and headed to his room. He took a bite when there. It was horrible. It was neither warm nor cold. Too bland. He held it firmly, and thought about the taste they had when warm. The melted insides. The warm outsides. Suddenly, he felt a searing heat on his hand. He dropped the pop-tart. He looked at his hand, it was red, but looked to be a first degree burn. He suddenly wondered something. He placed his hands together and felt relief seep into his burned hand, as if it was touching something cold.

Quinn felt a wave of distrust wash over him, directed by what Tabitha had said. "I know back when I moved here, my family talked to all of our relatives and neighbors about our plans to leave for months beforehand. It doesn't seem natural for someone to just pack up and go without warning. If there's something terrible behind this, then what's even more terrible is that everyone is in on it except us. It's like a real-life Truman Show."

Shane had silently ascended the stairs and taken his previous position by the window, drinking in every word said as he focused on the little net in his mind. Add in possible locations, fights, and timing, Shane was limiting many of his options concerning what may have happened at the fire based on personal experience.

... Personal experience. Wasn't his locker warmer when Stephanie touched it in her rage...? It finally clicked in his head what the most likely scenario was, right about the time Tabitha fell over. He'd missed the sounds made in his thought, but Quinn's worried movements and Tabitha's appearance over the rail showed she was okay. "It's already pretty much confirmed. People make rumors all the time that the people leaving aren't just randomly leaving, and even Kent's death turned into a departure statement." Shane shook his head and felt his eyes kind of space out as his train of thought took over. "We're pretty much only able to start another rumor even if we're right... In this case, probably right about this idea. Stephanie started the fire. Her hand left my locker way warmer than skin should've, and she's got a lot of fondness for making heat related puns. She was there to start it because of following Erin, and pissed off, caught the building on fire. Erin would have to have caused the ice. Erin was caught, Erin's gone now. Stephanie's a manipulating princess, so I wouldn't put it past her to have the balls to do it and still come to school... The only thing that doesn't really make sense is why the two would have some kind of magic in them to do that."

Quinn was silent during and following Shane's explanation. The pieces really did seem to all fall into place, but all of that hinged on "magic" being real. Which, though it would have probably been really cool, was preposterous, of course. ...Right? Yet Shane and Tabitha seem dead serious. What a world this would turn out to be; magic exists, only to be a offense punishable by...by death?

Nick thought for a moment and realized, it all made sense now.

"So...do...any of you guys have magic powers or anything? Or is it just a few of the people around?"

Nick wasn't sure if he should tell about his secret, or act like there was nothing different about him at all. He could trust these guys, but he wasn't sure if it was safe to say out loud.

Tabitha was a bit too shy to outright say anything. She had hoped somebody else would before her. "Well, I certainly cannot start a fire or freeze anything no. But if it is true what you say about the incident with Stephanie. then it seems even more possible. I hate not having hard evidence about any of it though." She says finding a chair to sit in. "The problem is, Stephanie would never cooperate with any kinds of questions about it. She has herself to protect. Who knows what would happen if anyone was found out," She rests her face in her hands and continues, "Even though Stephanie can be a real jerk.. I do not want her to be punished or anything just because of us. So be careful not to expose anyone."

"I can understand even if it was true even somebody we know has something like that. It would be hard to tell people you trust even. Let alone random people at school." Tabitha continues what she was saying earlier. "I can promise I would not expose any of you if I found something out. But that is just my word on it, Even I am not sure what to trust anymore."

"It would be nice if we knew who to try to avoid so we could tell each other, then keep a lookout for them."

Nick thought about it for awhile, and decided he'd wait a little longer before telling anyone.

"Well, what do we do now? Should we continue to go to school with Stephanie, or what? If she does have these 'powers,' it might be a good idea to avoid her for awhile, if not for good."

Quinn gave a low grunt sort of assent in response to Tabitha's words, along with a low "Yeah, me either..." Of course it was a given that if something were to happen, he'd never say anything; there seemed to be too much at stake, let alone the privacy everyone was entitled to.

"Is it really dangerous to go to school with Stephanie there, though? If we assume those SWAT teams came for Erin, then surely they'd do the same for Stephanie, so she couldn't outright expose herself anyway. With the sort of...posse she has, I'm surprised there aren't more witnesses already?"

"If she chased after Erin alone, there wouldn't be witnesses. All the clique at school seemed to know is that Erin and Stephanie went at it. She's also a brat, but apparently not stupid; if she's someone who's gonna end up "moving away" like the others, she's at least able to be careful to hide it. Or good at causing fear." Shane seriously doubted another possibility, that she had a hold of enough of the population that anyone potentially ratting her out would be dealt with long before Stephanie herself would vanish...

Shane shook his head and started staring off, trying to think up potential answers to the situation. A brat who could make fire, a school of kids possibly with powers like his who are at risk of being evacuated in some way once exposed, and his potential to shift some weight around in the situation was all just... weird to him.

Charlie looked at his "burnt" hand. The red was gone, and it didn't hurt. He picked up the poptart, and took a bite. It was delicious. Thinking about the burn, however, he decided to try something else. He focused on the taste of a frozen poptart, and the texture. The warmth quickly faded from the poptart, and soon it was cold to the touch. He took a bite, and it was cold and good.

Charlie looked back over the things he had heard recently. There was that suicide. Strange that a jock would do that to himself. And that girl who had seen it happen. Seemed a bit fishy. Then there was that fire. And the fact that it froze solid instantaniously. He wanted to try that for himself. He walked downsatirs, grabbed a bottle of water, and headed back up. He placed it on his desk. He stared at it. He thought of snow, of ice, of slush. Nothing happened. It remained water. He frowned. He thought of boiling water, of steam, of a sauna. Nothing happened. Wait. Whenever something changes temperature for me, I am touching it. He grabbed the water, thinking about coldness, ice, and snow. A crystal of ice formed around where he was holding, and quickly spread. He then thought about warmth, steam, and rain. The water started melting, but then the bottle started melting as well. He quickly froze the water again.

OOC: I am not copying Stephanie, in case any are thinking that. I have my own ideas with this.
