That is a good question!
I can imagine it being fun both ways!
If we choose to have the mafias true identities known to eachother, then facebook or whatever works well for communication.
If we choose to have the mafias true identities hidden from eachother, the group PM funtion within RV works well. (make sure to hit reply to all button).

While the idea and intent is good, realistically people tend to work out who's who halfway through the game and the same issues arise all over again. Admittedly I haven't actually tried it, I'm just sharing why the idea we scrapped the idea the last time it suggested (not here).

The flaw is magnified with less players and a tight-knit forum.

On another note, have you guys ever used quicktopic for mafia communication?

It becomes a bit of a pain to read when a topic hits 600 posts (Highest I've been a part of was 736!) but besides that it's great. Unlikely that would ever be an issue with smaller games... unless you're like me and you love to waffle on.

Also, pretty sure we could work out who was who from their mannerisms.

For example, certain people just cannot spell or use correct grammar :anger:

I think it would be a fun experiment. The worst case scenario, as mentioned, is that we figure each other out by mannerisms... and then have a regular game from there on? I don't see that as a terrible thing.

And I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to be trying to play like anyone but myself because that sounds fun.

It is as long as you don't abhor what you're trying to be. I thoroughly enjoyed only asking questions, but hated trying to be a votes-only guy, for example.

So uhh are you going to create all of these usernames for us or do you tell us the name, and we make them ourselves, or do we each just make another username?

I agree that pretty much everyone is going to figure eachother out but I would love to masquerade as a lurker. And maybe live past N2. It is mostly awesome being the guy to start lynch trains and generate activity, but it sucks if/when I'm mafia or if I really am busy irl and people (the mafia) are all 'where's lander' and 'i want lander's opinion on this'.

All that said, I think the (intended) absence of the metagame could prove troublesome because if you're like me, you're going to have a hard time focusing on the game and not on who people are and trying to deduce info that way.

Why not make it a rule to not mention or hint to wgo you really are or mention/hint who ypu think someone else is, so that isn't even a factor in the game?

I don't think it needs to be explicit, we all know that this is the point of the game. It's just going to be hard.

I also was hoping to get everyone to find themselves an avatar image that relates to the username. That way its easier for the players to have a visual association to the new username.

It's a good thing Goten drew a large amount of avatar faces that can be used for just such a purpose.

K i'll start working on it. Expect a sign up page to be open in a few days. Sign ups will be open for a week. Get everyone you know in here(especially first timers to RV). The more people we get, the longer the game and the more data you will be able to get from behaviour patterns.

This is cool because you can role-play at least a little bit. I think I was the only one who tried to be british-ish in the BRITISH mafia game.

The British reference was only for me really, I just added a bit of British stereotyping to the general game. Dr Henry is British so he doesn't have to try (like me).

Man I don't even want to figure it out, haha. In fact, I would prefer if you don't even tell the Mafia players who each other are. If they want to do that, fine, but I know I for one wouldn't. Feels like it defeats the purpose--at that point a certain subset of people know who each other truly are, and then it's just being used to get a leg up on the Villagers.
