why cant my towers be invisible?

Because they're metal. Depending on the method, it's stretching it to allow your soldiers' clothes to be invisible, but objects completely unattached or objects larger than the soldiers themselves would not be invisible unless the enchantment was somehow placed on them directly. Plus, even if they were invisible, they'd still displace water, making it easy to tell where they are.
BIC: Ok, I'm going to start dropping rocks now, starting with the area between the two towers on either side of the main gate, intending to block the only entrance.
