for my fake role claim, I was debating if I should have added "you didn't leave.... and no one went to your house". it would have made my claim more believable, but at a big risk of having someone visit the same person I did, and calling me out on it.

I agree about posting all possible PMs for standard games, not only so there is no confusion about mechanics, but so that claiming has to be done more discretely.

The thing about posting PMs is that it leaves the mafia significantly less wiggle room when it comes to arguing about what happened at night. A list of roles narrows down exactly what they can claim, but at least there is some ambiguity about how the roles actually work.

I made the mafia Stalker work that way because it's more balanced. The Watcher has protection from getting found out, something that's unavoidable with a Mafia Cop. On the opposite side, the Stalker can find out if someone visits himself or someone on his team, allowing for planning and anticipating a claim/counterclaim.

I concur. We must lynch him now for the sake of the metagame, we MUST teach people that they can't go around claiming "anniversary" and expect leniency. Topsummoner.

I'd vote Godders as MVP.

If it weren't for Godders, then I think we would have been more lenient on Market Man6, probably not lynching him at all. That whole scuffle came down to deciding which of them was Mafia. Market Man6 had more convincing reports, because at the time Godders' reports were such that they could be made up by any player - none of them had been proven. Still, Godders' claim weakened Market Man6's claim and credibility, and it eventually led to us lynching our first Mafia.

Then the Mafia decided to kill Topsummoner, which ended up proving Godders' N2 report of Topsummoner being a vanilla Villager. This basically gave Godders full credibility. Good timing too, because his last report was of Dr Henry visiting Topsummoner. That was the evidence we needed to lynch Dr Henry.

I accept full responsibility for apparently being enough of a threat to warrant killing over the Tracker 8-[

I don't think this is as huge as a deal if there's a large amount of possible roles, as there was in this game. The mafia had plenty to work with between the possibilities of Tracker, Watcher, and Detective for investigative roles alone.

That was just a screw up on our part, I figured risking leaving Godders alive was a bad idea personally, but we were so unlucky with the result.

I have to say I am somewhat dismayed at the use of semantics in the past few games, I personally think that listing roles and possible PMs takes a lot of the mystery, surprise, and fun out of the game.

I course I can't stop other hosts from doing what they like, but I'm particularly averse to listing possible roles and PMs.

I think listing role PMs is a terrible idea.

People don't read the rules, but they do read their PMs. Put this line at the beginning and end of their role PM and all other PMs you send them (like detective reports or whatever).

*****DO NOT POST OR SHARE ANY PART OF ANY OF YOUR PMs WITH ANYONE!*****

Punish people who Fuzzy Bunny up. Modkill them, or mute them for a day or for the rest of the game.

On MafiaScum there are three primary types of games: Open, Semi-Open, and Closed.

Open: All roles and details of those roles are known before the game. An example of an Open setup would be that Street Cleaners game I ran a while back.

Semi-Open: Possible roles and details of those roles are known before the game, but none of the roles are guaranteed to be in the game. An example of a Semi-Open setup would be 2of4.

Closed: Nothing about roles is known before the game. Most RV mafia games have been like this.

The problem with Closed setups is, while they are quite fun sandboxes for experienced players to mess around with, is they can be difficult for newcomers. Semi-Open are the most balanced for that purpose, and probably should have been used when that influx of new players came in. That's not to say Closed setups should be eliminated altogether though, because as you said, they offer a fun element of mystery and surprise.

Except that some of us consider the role PM part of the game.

We've established that you shouldn't quote your PM word for word. But roleclaiming, and in my game's case, paraphrasing, is allowed.

I never said I have a problem with roleclaiming or paraphrasing. Quoting parts or posting the whole PM should be punishable though.

I guess the wording can be improved.

Well since the great Kikori incident of 2013 it seemed obvious.

But uh, Godders did the same thing this time around. :?:

While the PM Godders quoted was accurate, it is so short that it's much easier to fake than what kikori posted a while back. Also, I'm pretty sure its impossible to actually quote a PM and turn it into a post, so Godders must have inserted my name into the <quote=> part and then copied the report.

I don't understand why he thought quoting a PM word-for-word would be any different than print-screening, though. :?

The thing is, the wording of the quoted PM can be used to determine its validity.
