1) Read the line.
2) Read that line 3 times out loud or to yourself.
3) Once you have that line down, say it without looking at the script.
4) If successful, read the next line and repeat.
5) After memorizing the second line, say the first and second line.
6) Repeat the process.

It helped me during a project I had!

Thanks for the tips, Hellfire, I'm actually going to audition for another play and any advice really helps! I might bump this topic around the time of the next audition.

I don't want to be a naysayer, and I don't want to pull this topic out of the grave but I'm gonna throw around my two cents.
I'm glad to see you're going out for a musical theatre audition, it's honestly one of the biggest thrills just being out there on a stage with other people and entertaining people.

If it isn't too late, I'd suggest preparing a song from a related musical - since it seems like you're not going for YAGMCB, I can't directly reccomend any song choices for you. But no matter what, something almost all musical directors hate is listening to the national anthem, songs such as the aforementioned Twinkle Twinkle, Happy Birthday, etc. It is however true that quite a few people still choose to use these, even though they show a very limited vocal range and not a very wide range of vocal technique.

Most of the time they will have a piano accompanist there (if it's a well-produced company) and you are required to provide sheet music to the song of your choice. If you need access to said music, I know a few legal directories that I could point you towards but as far as the rest goes, it's up to you.

The script read - well, seeing as YAGMCB is more of a light, upbeat show - you would be expected to convey that kind of attitude. If you need any more information feel free to send me an email at: kmcbain@live.ca

The song might be the easiest part. Most people do something really simple, such as Happy Birthday, My Country Tis of Thee, Twinkle Twinkle, etc. I'd do something like one of those because everyone knows the lyrics, and everyone knows the pitches of the notes.

The most important thing to remember about auditions, is that everyone's nervous, and no one will laugh at you (unless you make it funny ;)). Relax, take a breath and HAVE FUN!!! Let me know how everything turns out, Kami! :awesome:

Any and all advice is appreciated!

If you've done an audition before and know what to do/not to do, PUH LEEZE help me.

Thanks a million!
