At that price range, it's really between Yamaha and Casio, and the Yamahas always seem to be better.

The KeyRig 49 definitely falls into that range so I'll look into it although I'm looking more for a Digital Piano rather than a MIDI controller, meaning being able to play it without it being plugged into my computer.

I also like the "portable" keyboards, so preferably something like that. (The keyrig is one of those, I just want to make sure I don't get a suggestion for something that is stationary.)

I like Yamaha but I really can go to any brand.

Do you have a price limit? M-Audio has some sweet workstations if you have something like Pro Tools or Garageband. I have the KeyRig 49, and it's been great so far.

Also, I'm not sure what you meant by your "stream them here" line, but if you wanted to produce something on the forum that you can stream it from here similar to the [youtube] tags... Well, I don't think there's a way to do that with an audio hosting site (unless you wanted to make Glodenox put something in the forum code, which I don't think he'll readily want to do). However, if you do want something like that, you can make a video with just a blank image and the sound file without too much trouble and then upload it to youtube and then use the youtube tags

Yeah I know, I'll probably just post a link. When I said stream it, I meant online and then link RV to it, most likely.

Thanks for the help!

To answer your question the best one that I know of is tindeck which allows for streaming and uploading. You can also use supload for the same exact thing, but I think tindeck looks much nicer and is used specifically for mp3 hosting instead of image, video, and audio hosting like supload. So from a personal preference I suggest tindeck, but you can use either tindeck or supload.

It would probably be as simple as googling it or something, but I figured I'd see what RVers do first.

Also, good guide Thyker. Even if that audacity thing isn't very good for splitting tracks, I downloaded it and it also seems to be a great recording program, especially for being free. Nice find! :)

Hidden:
If you've got a copy of a song and you want to remove the vocals from the song for some reason... maybe you want to sing over it yourself or maybe do something else with it, you can remove it pretty easily with Audacity, a free program that you can use to edit audio files. Granted, this method usually doesn't work that well and when it does the sound quality really suffers, so before you do this, I suggest searching the web to see if there's a good quality one out there, but if you can't find one and you really need to do this for whatever reason.... Well, you can use this little handy guide.

First thing you need to do is download Audacity if you haven't and open it up, and then open up whatever song you want to remove the vocals from. I better mention this now, this method only works if your copy of the song is in stereo, sorry but there's pretty much no way to remove vocals from a mono version of a song easily.

Image

Now we have a stereo track of a song, pretty simple.

Image

Next, we need to split the stereo track, as seen in the picture. Just click the name of the track and select split.

Image

We have two tracks now and we need to invert one of the tracks, so just click on one to select it (make sure you have one of the two selected, no more, no less) and then under the "Effects" tab, click "Invert". It might take a few seconds but then the track will be inverted. I selected the Right (bottom) track out of habit but I'm pretty sure it works if you invert the Left track.

Image

Next make both of the tracks into Mono, click on the tracks name and from the drop-down menu select Mono. Do this for both tracks, and then you'll be solid

Image

And you're done! Just a quick listen to the track....

Image

:grr: And there are still remnants of the vocals there in mine, and probably in yours too. And the quality is dropped a bit too. But it will still work pretty well if you plan on singing over the vocal remnants or mixing it along with something. It's just probably not that great for simple listening. A nice general rule for this is if it's sort of a high-end song that probably used a bit of editing, it probably will be far from perfect, but if you downloaded it from someone's myspace, well then hey, it might work almost perfectly as intended. Just make sure you export it as a wav or mp3 or whatever if you really like it.

Hope you like it.

tindeck - A nice upload site for your song files. Need to register to upload.
supload - Another upload site for audio files. Can also be used to upload images and videos if you're into that.

Helpful Software:

Audacity - FREE audio editing software. Good for getting used to audio editing and the like and it's free. Did I mention it's free?
Adobe Audition - Nice software that has a lot of neat tools. I personally use this and I like it. Pretty expensive like all adobe products, though, so if you are on the fence about it I wouldn't recommend shelling out that much cash for it.
FL Studio - Great remixing software and one of the best of it's kind out there, I'd suggest looking at some youtube videos to see how nice it functions. There are varying versions with varying prices you can get.

Also I will update this post with whatever you post that I feel was helpful enough that it should go here (or whatever mod editting my post feels should go here).

Also while posting youtube videos or links to other sites with guides and tips is fine, I'd like to steer away from that sort of stuff with reviews of equipment/software. I'd like the reviews to be from a personal perspective because we trust people we know better than just a link to a random site that says you should spend $1500 on your first keyboard. But casually saying stuff like "Music Magazine says that this dynamic microphone is much more qualified than this condenser one" is perfectly fine when answering questions. I just don't want people giving callous answers that say read this 12 page thesis on the distinctions between condenser and dynamic microphones.

Unsure of what I mean? Well just wait around and read a few of the posts and I'm sure you'll get it.

So hop to it. I personally would like to see a guide or two from some of our singers about getting started and proper exercises.
