Before the EOC, i liked the poison aura, but haven't used it since. Not because it's not good anymore (i dont know), but didnt have the chance.
The players decreased could have been bots banned and the 2007 rs taking upsome people's time instead. Or their entire RS focus.

It's up to you on the auras. Most people get the jack of all trades one, you have to gain exp in 5 skills daily and you get an xp lamp. Other useful ones are surefooted, which make it impossible to fail agility obstacles for a time and the prayer auras.

I'd just go with whatever it is you want to start training really. Some of the nicknames are there just for fun too.

I know what you're saying but this isn't coming from nostalgia really. I've been playing since 2003, enjoyed the game throughout all those years but 2010 - 2011 were the most enjoyable for me. I think I really liked how the game looked when the first HD full screen option was available; before they completely messed with the UI and released EOC or whatever. I felt the game was slowly being modernised nicely without losing what made it Runescape. Ultimately I left the game because of Dungeoneering but besides that I thought the game was peaking at that time.

Anyway, that's all just personal opinion. I don't think it's any coincidence that at prime time, the number of players online have decreased from 130k odd to 50k (if they're lucky) over the last few years, though.

Still, none of that matters if you find that you still enjoy the game. Why not just buy a month and see if it's worth playing still? It's only ~$10 or so. That's what I'm doing with Old School 07scape.

People have been saying that forever though, too. First it was 2005, then 2007. Nostalgia always plays a factor. I could see how a lot of people might not like this, especially if you've been playing for a long time, constantly.

That being said, with these Loyalty Rewards, which of the Auras should I get? Is there one that's better than all the rest? Or just whatever I happen to want to train the most?

It's an entirely different game. All the mechanics you're used to from 2010 have been completely revamped.

Also, the majority of Jagex is now owned by a venture capitalist firm in New York City. The developments made to RuneScape in these past few years are the expressions of a noticeably different vision than when Andrew Gower was still with the company, for better or worse.

Combat level = defense level + highest combat stat(str, att, range, or mage) + 2.

Because of the EOC. The max is now 200 and f2p can be level 200 too

UI is changed hugely.
If you hit escape and go to the UI settings, you can choose from several presets(some of the presets are similar to old styles).

And I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I'm tempted to come back to the game, because it's one of the few games I can play at work (they have a lot of them blocked because I'm using the Campus' public internet, and I have to live on campus to have better internet and play games like LoL, WoW, or even log in to Steam). Has a lot really changed, or is it just the UI, and I really have no clue what I'm doing. If this is something I think I could enjoy again, I may get Members, but as of right now, it's not looking like it.
