This is partially why I stopped checking my email.. I have ~3000 unread emails. >_> Hotmail and Gmail continue to increase their free storage though, so I'm not so inclined to sift through them.
Perhaps you should try getting a phone number and talk it through - just to be sure.
Jeez, if you have that many unread e-mails, I would recommend doing the same thing.

I'd be more inclined to reply and play along except once you do that, they add you to ALL the scam lists because then they know it's a legit, checked e-mail address.
My mom has gotten a few of these; one of them was from someone pretending to be the head of Facebook. It was pretty funny actually.
Just reply under a new email. It's not like they'll notice or care.
