I know right. In 27 hours she'll be here!

For sure. Moving on sucks but is necessary. I think it will be made so much easier on Thursday.

Look, it's different for every person. You will have people who lose a pet, be upset for a day, and buy a new one next week.

But that's not everyone and that's certainly not me. After having her for 18.5 years and since I was 3, all I have ever known is having her with me. I am also a bit a loner, so she meant a hell of a lot to me personally.

There is that void of no longer having a pet with you but unfortunately there's also a more depressing void of not having that particular pet with you.

Sorry to hear that. It sucks, doesn't it? There is no chance Suzie will be forgotten. To think, it won't be until I'm over 37 years old that I had only spent half my life with her.

Going from having that for years to not having it is a bit of a void, no doubt about it.

Glad to see you're moving forward with moving on, Ape. Cute pup. :D

Yep, agreed. It's like any other loss. You even start to miss the "bad" parts about them.

I'm sure it was no laughing matter at the time but Suzie was quite a... frisky, enthusiastic "individual" as a puppy (and when she was older, tbh). My parents have both told me that when she was a puppy, she failed puppy school because all she wanted to do was play with the other puppies. Frustrating at the time for them I'm sure, hilarious for me now.

Looks like an adorable pup. The only silver lining about losing an old friend is being able to welcome a new one into your life. There is no better way to honor the memory of pets past then to get a new one. At the end of our lives we'll be able to look back and remember all the wonderful animals that we shared our lives with. Its truly a special bond that we are lucky to have.

Well said.

I'll be sure to post some photos when she is ours!

R.I.P Old friend

Image

The past few days have been encouraged some very mixed feelings. We're getting a new puppy on Thursday which is really exciting but at the same time it means that we have to do something we don't want to do; fully move on and let our old one go for good. She will never be forgotten and always have a special place in my heart though. I think it's just the lead up that's killing me. Once Thursday arrives and we get our new friend all will be well and I'll be able to move on.

Here's a sneak peak. She is gorgeous!

Btw, for any Aussies playing at home, the old one died on Australia Day and the new one is coming on ANZAC Day. Crazy ties there.

Today, my dog Suzie died. She went peacefully.

Suzie was born in August 1994 and we bought her in September 1994, when I was only 3 years old.

She was 18 years and 5 months old when she died earlier today, and she had spent all but a few weeks of that life with her family who loved her.

This is a photo of the day we got her. I'm on the left (and cute as a button, just as an aside).

Some more random photos of her, taken in the last 5 years.

Unfortunately, today her time was up. But she had a good (and long!) life, and she had a good death, dying on her own terms. You can't ask for much more than that.

This is her just over a week ago, sleeping in one of her favourite spots - in front of the door so nobody can get into the house. But I think she just liked the spot because it was the closest she could be to us. My last photo of her.

She will not be forgotten but boy will she be missed.

She was my best friend.

R.I.P Suzie, August 1994 - January 2013.
