China doesn't just censor adult sights...it censors anything that's critical of the regime or facilitates the act of dissent...

Yeah I read about the whole investigation, actually thought it was even shorter than that. After I posted I also checked out some of the websites Anonymous had taken down and they're back up, so you have a point with the poster comparison.

Needless to say the only thing that's actually going to stop SOPA is good campaigning, petitioning and lobbying. Can't rely on terrorist organizations for that.

You got that right. This is only the start of the war and the SOPA supporters have made the first move.

Luckily we have Anonymous to retaliate for us, otherwise we wouldn't be able to respond in turn to websites being taken down.

That being said, taking down a filesharing site to curb piracy is about as logical and effective as making DVD burners illegal for the same purpose.

From what I understand about the American textbook industry (read: monopolists), there'll be a lot of corporate interest because of that.

I think they'll find that the online grassroots community is stronger, though. A bill of this sort could cripple the online infrastructure of America (probably taking half the developed world with it). I think the answer to piracy is more companies or services like Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll, to name but a few. Take away the market for piracy.

I completely agree. However, the online grassroots aren't capable of paying the government tens of millions of dollars to get our way.

This is an endurance test for both sides.

I mean the internet is a pretty big thing now. Pretty much everyone has it on their PHONES these days. It's integrated into our daily lifestyles to a nearly absurd degree. If the government had successfully moved towards a censorship of the web a decade ago, it might have been begrudgingly accepted. But these days? That's a straight up infringement of freedom upon a really popular aspect of the average American's life. I can't help but feel that there would be blood.

And I'd be totally cool with that.
