Both amazing actors, great men, and the epitome of manliness, but the only way one could deem Eastwood greater than the Duke is if they haven't experienced his work. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Clint Eastwood and virtually all of his work, and I'll watch anything the man creates (Invictus, anyone?), but John Wayne was so awesome he could eat a handful of nails and defecate a complete barbed-wire fence without flinching.
If you voted for Clint Eastwood, go watch some John Wayne movies. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. All glory to the hypnotoad.

I was going to give a long multi-faceted explanation as to why, but as per usual with my desire to make such posts, my interest died by the time I'd finished the first sentence. Sooner or later this thread is going to either collapse into another argument of generic jackassery because people got bored of being snobs about their preferred genre of music for once, or just die.
Although I'm certain that no matter what, everyone will be able to experience growth from engaging in this topic, even if only on a rhetorical level. After all, what better place for self-betterment than a random forum thread that was created on a whim...

Seeing as this topic wasn't made specifically about westerns, I'm going with Eastwood.
When you say John Wayne the first thing that comes to mind is westerns (and vice versa) but he made a lot of pictures in other genres as well. "Hatari!" and "They were Expendable" are two of his very best IMO.

Harry may be a good cop, but when it comes to cowboys, *nobody* beats the Duke.
Look at that picture above.... Harry walkin down the street shuffling along... but check this... the Duke shootin that .44, flipping his rifle and guiding the horse with his teeth! That cannot be beat. Easy win for the Duke.
BTW - the blue shirt, leather vest and red bandana that Waye is wearing in True Grit recently sold at auction for $27,000
