I think the main difference is that, as Top aluded, everyone has a canonical example of Thr's type of role PM. To write in someone else's style when you've probably never received a PM from them before is very hard to do, so for a game like this it'd be nearly impossible to fake.

I've already addressed this. A very specific role pm in the style of the host is hard to imitate. If it was a simple detective or doctor claim then yeah fine but that was just too specific to not be believed. It's better no one is allowed to post their role pms than relying on people's skill at impersonating the host.

See, I remember your game from a few years back that didn't exactly have standard rules, so your faulting me for reading the rules and what is and isn't there is really really rich coming from you. I PMed him about the omission before doing anything and didn't act until I received consent. My conscience is clear.
Sorry, but can you clarify? I've hosted a whole lot of non-standard games (Deductive Reasoning Mafia and Bifurcate Mafia immediately come to mind) but I don't recall hosting any games with non-standard rules. I could be totally wrong though, I just don't remember it offhand.

(Also yeah I guess if Thr said it was okay then that's fine, but daaaang.)

I mentioned this in the Discord channel, but if I were playing, you could have decided not to roleclaim and I still would have voted for Sighence. After Sparky's post pointing out Sighence's role PM had no night action though Sighence claimed to have been knowingly roleblocked, I would have definitely been voting for him, and chalking up any resistance to your roleclaiming up to your spats with Lander last game.

Actually that reminds me, how did Sighence know he was roleblocked, anyway? Did I miss that somewhere?

Oh, then that's not as big of a goof as I thought it was. Anyway aside from my own confusion, I figured it would stir up the game even more. Mafia could lie, and the village with roles they didn't want their role revealed would b.s. making things more interesting/keep things moving.

Looking how the game played, I should of chose a different village evil and taken away the 1 off doctor self protect.

Also, some roles I thought about putting in.
Arsonist
Twins
Ex-Hitman - Custom Role with the ability to kill the person with the most votes on them that day.
Vampire Hunter/Vampire

Monks role PM was so specific and not in Monks style of writing, it was obvious it was legitimate and that's why posting role PMs has been banned for years.

I had 1 main issue with this game. For the mafia to win it depended on either or both of monk and spiros roles choosing to side with the mafia. Specifically Spiro. I get that it's your choice whether you win with the mafia or the town but when you know the game can be won right there and then and you intentionally choose not to you've made it very very difficult for the mafia to do anything but just lose (hence my self vote at the end). It felt like poor sportsmanship. And to top it all off giving the doctor self protect with all the advantages they already had just felt unfair.

That being said you made a custom game far more balanced than I ever could have, so I don't want to complain too much. I had fun up! :)

Quoting is just a BBcode. You can make it look like anyone said anything, even if it's clearly not true.

Normally, ending the game when the number of Mafia equal the number of Villagers is a courtesy because a Mafia win is inevitable. The Mafia won't vote in a lynch (why should they?), so no lynches will happen since there will never be a majority, and then someone will be killed by the Mafia the following night, and so on and so forth until all the Villagers are dead.

I've never ever played in a mafia game where play continued after there was 50% mafia to 50% others. I don't think Thr would have gone down that route anyways.

My roleclaim didn't matter, plain and simple. I was screwed statistically; there was no roleclaim I could make that would be bought if anybody took a step back and looked at this statistically. Besides, Spiro was already the kingmaker at that point.

I have plenty of grievances with this game, mostly with the setup itself but also with the play of some players. I don't know how to phrase it all constructively though so I think it's probably better if I stay quiet.

So here's the game of Mafia as I understand it. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

People say "The Mafia win when their numbers equal or exceed the Villagers" (heck, it's rule #3) but that is simply not true. The Mafia's true win condition is for all of the Villagers to die. (I just searched the Internet several times and it says they can also win if they outnumber (not equal) the Villagers, which is also fine; see below).

Jackstick's role actually could have been an example of this. If there were two Mafia and two Villagers left, Jackstick's double-vote power still could have swung a majority against a Mafioso.

But my beef with Top (love ya but you messed up dude) is that his role was legitimately broken. If it came down to 1 Mafia and Top, a lynch won't happen, and Top can't die at night because he'll never be home. Mafia can't self-murder because that would be dumb, so the game is deadlocked forever. I can't imagine a real Mafia game that would create a role that could deadlock the game, which means Top's role was made up.

You actually weren't even on my radar at that point, but suddenly posting a broken role + trying to kill the claimed Doctor at the same time was just...really really weird.

(Note: The above post falls to pieces if you uphold Thr's Rule #3, but I still defend my position that "mafia == villagers" is not a valid win condition if the game has special roles.)
