Courtroom Mafia is my newest variant. This time, the major difference isn't in roles or win conditions... it's the very gameplay of Mafia.
Those of you familiar with the variant Kingmaker will find this first mechanic change familiar: there is a village power role called the President.

During the night phase, chooses a player to be the Judge during the next Trial phase. When the President dies, a random Civilian becomes the new President. If no Civilians remain, then a random power role. The President may not make himself the Judge. The President may not choose a player who was the Judge in the previous Trial phase. The President must also include a backup Judge choice in case his first pick dies.
There are three phases:
Night (36 Hours)
Nomination (48 Hours)
Trial (48+ Hours)
The night phase occurs as normal. Power roles send in their night actions. The President chooses a Judge.
At the beginning of the nomination phase, the chosen Judge is revealed. Players then must vote on who they want to put on trial. Each player only has one vote in this phase, and cannot change it once it is placed! (Format: Nominate: Player) At the end of the phase, the player with the most votes is put on trial. A majority does not have to be reached, but if it is, the phase will end early. If there is a vote tie, the Trial phase will be skipped.
During the trial phase, the first voter for the nominated player becomes the Plantiff. The nominated player becomes the Defendant. The Defendant may choose to elect a Lawyer, but may also opt out. (Elect: Player) During this phase, only the Plantiff, Defendant, Lawyer, and Judge may speak. Other players may show their opinion by voting Guilty or Not Guilty. This vote can be changed and has no bearing on whether the Defendant is lynched. As soon as the Plantiff, Defendant, and Lawyer have all posted at least once, the 48-hour deadline begins. The Judge must reach a verdict of Guilty or Not Guilty in this time. (Format: Verdict: (Not) Guilty) If he fails to do so, he will be lynched himself. If he chooses Guilty, the Defendant is lynched. If he chooses Not Guilty, the Trial phase ends with no lynch.
