"Wake up! Wake up!", he heard someone shout, and he opened his eyes wide, realising he'd fell asleep by the entrance to the sewer. "What were you thinking!? What if someone had found you?", the voice continued, and he realised it was one of his fellow assassins. "I wasn't thinking anything was I? I was asleep for heaven's sake!", he shouted back, obviously a touch annoyed after being woken up so abruptly. Both of the men heard laughter from behind and they froze, wondering whether it would be an ally on an adversary that had managed to sneak up behind them. "Don't worry, it's just me", the man began, and they both sighed with relief. The three assassins rumaged in their packs to make sure they had everything that was neccesary. Then they sat by the sewer entrance waiting until the time was right.
They looked at the brightening sky, then looked at each other. And all at once, they exchanged a nod and shouted "Lets go!" at the night wind. They pulled open the sewer entrance and ran inside, it was dark, and one of them poured some oil on his torch, lighting it quickly. "Damned rats", one of them muttered, kicking a rat out of the group's way. "They ought to get a sweep down here", another laughed, smiling at how even when they were about to kill someone they could still joke about. They walked for about ten minutes, after nearly getting lost in the maze that was the imperial sewer. And finally they were there.
"This is it, as soon as we hear Uriel, it's time to strike", one whispered, and the others nodded, one adding "The others will have forced Uriel to use this path, you two should go and check that he hasn't found another way out, I'll handle this". The other two looked at each other, unsure, but then finally nodded. "I guess", they said in unison, shakily agreeing with the other. And with that thy dissapeared back into the sewers. "I s.. shall die for what I believe in", he repeated to himself, realising he had just sentenced himself to dying alone, with neither of his two greatest friends with him. The air around him had a putrid smell, as if others had died here before, they had, he thought to himself, remembering the piled up skeletons they had seen on the way in. Then suddenly he felt a chill down his spine, as he heard the familiar voice of Uriel Septim, "It is my time, you shall go alone", he heard the emporer say, and he suddenly began to shake, realising the emporer was not alone, and he might end up dying without succeeding in finishing the emporer off.
"Oh well", he whispered to himself, muttering a few curse words to ease the fear of what was about to happen. With a swift motion he moved a brick in the wall, causing the secret passage to open up, and he swung down, bearing his dagger, ripping down through the emporer's back. He looked around, and the guards were no where to be seen, but there was another figure, whose race he could not see, as they were hidden in the darkest corner of the room. "You picked the wrong assassin to cross!" he shouted.
Clunk. The sound echoed as the assassin fell to the ground, the guard who had slain him's sword petruding from his chest. "I shall die today for what I believe in...", he muttered with his final breath. Then his eyes rolled back into his head. He was dead.
The emporer had been assassinated. Silence fell over Tamriel when the news broke out.
