The Dragon Threat
Book 1: The Summer of the Flame
Parts 11-20

Ok, if you read parts 1-10 in the last Villager, you know the story so far and will be glad to find I'm giving you parts 11-20 now!

Part 11: The Cult of the Unknown

Dark. It was dark in the next room. Jamie could barely see Man. But, for some reason, some people in dark robes seemed VERY visible. Almost like the darkness in the room did not affect their appearance. As he ran beside the man who shared his looks, Jamie asked this: "Who are they?"

"The Cult of the Unknown." Man replied. "For years they were thought to worship Zamorak, but recently we've discovered that they worshiped something else. A dragon, it seems. Turn left here."

Jamie turned left. SMACK! Right into a wall. "DEVISIPATE!" Suddenly, Jamie lost sight of Man and Rangerbane."DEVISIPATE! DEVISIPATE!" Rangerbane and Man became clear again, along with metal bars also became clear. A cage had landed on Jamie! The bottom of the cage closed, and the cage rose into the air, alongside another cage... containing the still unconscious Rangerbane.

"You betrayed us!" Jamie yelled at Man. "Why?"

"First of all," Man said. "My name is Strangerr. Secondly, I'm a member of the Cult of the Unknown."

"He shot us!" someone said.

"He defied us!" another yelled.

Jamie scanned the room for anything to help him, and he saw a bow and arrows in the corner. The bow read: Strangerr. The truth became clear.

"Strangerr did it!" Jamie shouted. "He looks like me, so he decided to have some fun and kill me. To do that, he shot at one his buddies, who thought it was me! It was him all along."

All the Cult members (except for Strangerr) looked at each other and mumbled. Then they all shouted: "Free the prisoner! Burn Strangerr!" Several ran up to Strangerr and carried him away.

"YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE LAST OF ME!" he shouted. The Cult members ran up and freed Jamie and Rangerbane.

Part 12: The Edge of the Wilderness

Fresh air filled Jamie's nostrils as he stepped outside. Or at least he wished it would. Instead, a very large stench filled his nose as Jamie (carrying the surprisingly still unconscious Rangerbane) walked out of the Cult of the Unknown's hideout, into the junk yard north of Varrock. The stench floated to Rangerbane's nose and.... "What smells bad? Where am I? Why are you carrying me? What time is it?"

Jamie answered all of his questions (except for the time because he didn't know) and then filled him in on what had happened so far.

"Huh." Rangerbane said. "At least it wasn't dangerous. Now... I must go now... I promised to help a friend with something. Bye!"

Rangerbane ran off, jumping a fence and heading west. Jamie sat down and reached for his pack to get something to eat. But, nothing was on his back. His pack was missing!

"Damn!" he said to himself. "I must have lost it in the Cult's hideout. But after what just happened, I don't like the sound of that." He looked around and saw a piece of meat just lying there, over the fence. "That looks good... but it could be a trap..." Hunger took over, and Jamie hopped the fence and went for the morsels. WHOOSH! Arrows went flying everywhere, and only reflexes of raising his shield saved him. He looked to see several rangers in red dragonhide armour. "Oh no... I got away from death only to run into it again." He took off in a big western sprint.

"Hey get back here!" they yelled. Jamie ran as fast as he could, when a warrior sliced at his legs. Jumping over it, he nearly got hit by a earth blast, which he ducked under just in time. Eventually, Edgeville came into view. He pumped for the safety of the bank.

Part 13: The Odd Armour Seller

Finally in Edgeville, Jamie sat down on a bench in the bank. He had just gone through tons of danger for armour he probably couldn't afford. But now, after all this, he just couldn't give in. After all this danger. After all this stupidity. Why did he ever leave the safety of the Champion's Guild? He couldn't get from Varrock to Edgeville without almost dying a million times. But, as he said before, Jamie could not give in. He stood up and looked for Ozaich's Hut.

It was on the outskirts of town, down in a very small valley. Jamie walked in, and the door closed behind him. "Who be this?" someone said. "Some un' looking to buy my wares?" Jamie looked around, seeing no one in the room.

"Weird..." he mumbled. "Uh, yes, Mr. Ozaich? I've come looking for a rune plate mail."

"Un'deed, I 'ave a rune plate mail... But I'm not selling it. Come again." Ozaich said, from where, Jamie wasn't sure.

"But, I need it! Please!"

"Very 'ell! There be a dragon, name' Elvarg she is. Slay 'er, and I’ll sell you 'da plate mail."

Suddenly a force began to push Jamie out of the house. "Wait! Where is Elvarg!"

"Crandor Island. It's locat' be near Karjama." And with that, Jamie flew out the door, which flew shut behind him.

As Jamie walked away, he thought he heard a whispered 'DEVISIPATE'.

"Stop! You are now a prisoner of the Phoenix Gang!" a voice sounded.

"Not again..." mumbled Jamie.

Part 14: Phoenix Power

"Do you ever give up?" Jamie asked the muggers. "You lost your chance to be made into sushi! But I suppose you can have... the left overs!" he yelled, drawing his scimitar.

The muggers smiled, then pulled out scimitar's of their own. But they were not mithril. They were DRAGON!

"Well, you do have good weapons..." Jamie winced. "But I doubt you have much experience." he said, holding his shield in his other hand. "Bring it."

"FOR THE PHOENIX GANG!" the muggers shouted. And then they struck. It turned out they were good with their weapons. When the first of the two sliced at Jamie, the force came with impressive speed, that Jamie jumped back enough to make it only skin his chainmail (breaking several links).

"Okay, to plan B. RUN!" Jamie yelled. He ran past the muggers, and headed out of the valley. But then he spotted several thieves with Phoenix Crossbows up on the cliff. As bolts were fired, he ran faster and faster. But it wasn't fast enough. Soon the scummy muggers caught up to him, and cornered him.

"Any last words?" the muggers said.

"Yes. Take this!" Jamie performed a spinning kick and knocked the muggers into the bottom of the cliff opposite, which had the thieves with crossbows at the top. They loaded their bolts and...

"AIR BLAST!" A white energy ball hit the cliff, sending the thieves off it, onto the muggers below. The air blast caused the cliff to tremble, sending big boulders which crushed the muggers and thieves. Jamie ran forward and picked up one of the dragon scimitars, putting his in his sheath. He then turned to see his savior.

Part 15: The Names 45. Stip 45.

When Jamie turned to see his savior, he expected to see a powerful mage with an air staff. But what he saw blew his mind completely. He saw... nothing. Absolutely nothing was on the cliff opposite. But, in a split second, a figure in purplish robes with an odd symbol on the front appeared. A purple amulet with the same symbol glimmered on his chest. On his head he wore a hood that shadowed his face entirely. In one hand he had a greyish white staff that Jamie had never seen before, and in the other he had a block of cheese with many chunks out of it. He lifted it up to his covered face and took a messy bite.

"Who the 'ell are you?" Jamie asked.

"Stip45." said a very surprisingly friendly voice. "You should thank someone who saved you from a gruesome death."

"Thank you? What is that symbol? It seems familiar..." Suddenly Jamie remembered where he had seen the weird symbol. It was about a year ago...

~~~~~
Jamie was digging in the Digsite east of Varrock when a tremor rocked the ground slightly. Then, someone munching cheese and covered in dust burst out of a hole screaming "-found it! HAHAHAHA! I found Zaros's Tomb! Come one! Come All! Visit the old god's Tomb! Where his evil spirit now resides! Here's proof!" he said, holding up a goblet with an odd symbol on the side...
~~~~~

"You were that guy," Jamie said. "That one guy who discovered the tomb of Zeris... or Zaris... or Xeron.... or Zaros... that’s it! Zaros!"

"Correct! You're smart! Wow! Have a cookie!" Stip said.

"What's a cookie?"

"Not the point. Now can you tell me... what were you doing messing with the Phoenix? Didn't you hear they somehow thieved billions of coins? They are a force to be reckoned with now!" Stip said. "Rumor has it that a 'Cult of the Unknown' helped them."

"Wait, wait! You're going too fast." Jamie said. "First of all, how were you invisible? Second of all, once again, what is a cookie? And lastly, why are you so friendly when you look so, how can I put this, evil? And by the way, thank you. One last thing, though. What is that staff and why do you like cheese so much?"

"Questions I will answer right now, so listen up," Stip answered.

Part 16: Questions lead to Answers

Stip took a deep breath. "Okay, here are all your answers." he said. "For being so friendly while being so evil looking is that Zaros forces me to be his evil servant, and to wear his robes at all times. But otherwise, I'm a nice guy."

"Forces you?" inquired Jamie.

"Yes, his evil spirt lives deep within this amulet. I am often possessed by him."

"Yeah, right... As for the other questions?" asked Jamie.

"Yes, yes..." smiled Stip. "For being invisible, Zaros's robes empower me with the power of invisibility. Oh and a cookie is a pastry often made with chocolate and oatmeal."

"Mmm... I want one."

"Yes sure you do." Stip said, getting impatient. "This staff is a rare smoke staff. It allows me infinite access to air and fire runes. And, I just like cheese."

"Ok..." said Jamie.

"Don't insult me because I like cheese!" Stip raged. "You won't like me when I'm mad!"

"I never insulted you!" Jamie protested. "And what's all this about, the Phoenix and the Unknown?"

"Don't ask me!"

"Ok, so the Cult worships a dragon, and the Phoenix are somehow getting gigantic help robbing-"

"And setting on fire!" Stip cut in, remembering a detail.

"-and setting banks on fire," continued Jamie. "Hmm... Wait! It all adds up... Well not all, but still. The Cult of the Unknown worships a dragon which is helping the Phoenix rob and destroy banks! Now all I need is, who told you about the robberies?"

"A friend of mine who lives in Port Sarim." Stip answered. "He was one of few survivors of the incident. He is in a slight coma though. He's being cared for in Port Sarim, shall we go there?"

"Exactly what I was thinking. Come on, let's go to Port Sarim and I'll explain what I just figured out."

Part 17: Unwilling Betrayal

Jamie and Stip were walking through Varrock Square when a group of adventurers walked by.

"Hi there, Rangerbane!" Jamie said, realizing one of them was his friend.

"Identity Confirmed," a dull voice came out of Rangerbane's mouth. One thing was certain. He wasn't himself. "Identity fatal. Destroy!"

"Wait! Wait!" Jamie yelled. Rangerbane pulled out his bow and loaded an arrow. "Wait? What has gone over you?"

"Reasoning Detected. Computing... please wait."

"I'll handle this." Stip said, his voice slightly muffled by the cheese in his mouth. He grabbed an empty vial from his pack and filled it in a nearby fountain while Rangerbane finished 'computing'.

"Warning! Reasoning fatal! Resume destroying." he said. He loaded an arrow (again).

"Wait!" Stip shouted. He stuffed the vial of water into Rangerbane's mouth. Smoke suddenly began to steam out of his ears.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Rangerbane yelled in his regular voice. "Huh? What? Where am I? Oh, Varrock! Well that's good!"

But Jamie wasn't listening. While Stip protested to Rangerbane to tell him what was wrong with him, Jamie was staring at the other people who were with Rangerbane. Because what they pulled out of their sacks (at the moment Rangerbane turned back normal) were vials of fire. No ordinary fire though. Dragon fire.

Part 18: Burn, BURN!

"What was wrong with you?" Stip asked Rangerbane. "You were all blank and using words that don't even exist, like computing!"

"What?" Rangerbane asked (incase you are wondering, these two had no idea what Jamie was staring at). "Nothing was wrong with me!"

Stip leaned over to Jamie."It seems your friend here is a hard block to chip through, if you catch my drift. You want a shot at this?"

But Jamie wasn't listening. He was to busy mumbling. "Fire Fire Fire Fire..."

"Huh? There's no fire. Fire Fire Fire Fire..." Stip (for he had seen the vials of dragon fire) mumbled.

"Fire Fire Fire Fire" the two mumbled in unison. The men with the vials just smiled. One was a warrior, another a mage, and the last a ranger.

"You two," the warrior said to his comrades. "You know what to do. I'll be back." And with that, he turned and walked toward the Palace. By now everyone in Varrock Square had seen what was happening. Jamie ran through the crowd, after the warrior. The mage suddenly threw his vial at Zaff's Staffs. SMASH! The entire store went up in flames. But also, everyone in the square (except for Rangerbane "I'll just stay away from the fire and no harm will come!") attacked the mage and ranger (including Stip with a powerful Dragon Halberd). As flame overtook the buildings near Zaff's, battle was joined.

The mage took out a staff of Iban and stamped the ground. Everyone nearby him except the ranger was hit by a fiery force that came out of nowhere, and was knocked back. The ranger then smiled and loaded his bow with 5 arrows at one time. "Cheers!" he said, and fired.

* * * * *

Meanwhile, Jamie was running toward Varrock Palace. He saw the warrior about to throw his vial at the Palace when... "STOP!" Jamie yelled this and charged the warrior with his newly acquired dragon scimitar. The warrior turned with speed, throwing the vial into the air. He drew his Dragon scimitar and attacked Jamie. The two locked their swords, but the warrior was smart and kicked Jamie forward. Landing with a thud, Jamie groaned. As he was on the ground, the shadow of the vial of dragon fire appeared on his chainmail.

* * * * *

The Mage and ranger fought with supervising skill. They were able to take on the entire group of people in the Varrock Square. Everyone had felt the wrath of the mage's Iban Blast, and also had been hit by at least 15 of the ranger's rune arrows. As the mage prepared for another Iban Blast, the ranger loaded his bow... but this time with his vial of dragon fire! He fired it directly at the General Store. As the well known store went up in smoke, everyone was wondering how they could ever defeat this dangerous duo.

Part 19: The Flaming Fight

The fire crackled as everyone charged the mage and ranger once again. The mage yelled "Iban Blast!" and once again everyone was hit by a fiery force. Everyone hit the ground in pain, except for Stip, who somehow kept his balance. He swung his Halberd at the ranger, who held out his hand and stopped it. "Huh?" was all Stip could say before the ranger grabbed the Halberd with one hand and kicked Stip away. The Halberd came free from Stip's hands. The ranger then swung the Halberd at Stip (and the others that had gotten up) and knocked him back. The mage cast Iban Blast again. Weak players were dropping like flies, and strong ones struggling. Stip got up again and took out his smoke staff. He threw Death Runes into the air and yelled, "FIRE BLAST!"

* * * * *

The vial was within three feet from Jamie's chest. At the last moment, he rolled to the side and grabbed the vial before it hit the ground. He pulled his sword from it's sheath, and it was the mithril one. He looked and saw the warrior, a dragon scimitar in each hand. Gulping, Jamie picked up his shield and put the vial in his pocket. He reached into his pack for a strength potion and... "Huh? Oh damn! I lost my pack in the Cult's base. I forgot."

"That was you in the cage? I've said too much," the warrior blurted out. "Time to die!" He attacked Jamie, who was clearly no match at the moment. The full moon shone brightly in the sky, and Jamie struggled to evade the warrior's deadly strikes. Suddenly, a dragon like figure flew out of nowhere and hit the warrior to the side.

* * * * *

A flaming fire ball zoomed toward the ranger. It hit him, and he went flying into the mage, who was knocked back. Stip's Halberd landed on the ground nearby. All the warriors charged the stunned ranger, while other rangers and mages shot arrows and spells. In moments, the ranger was dead. The mage, standing meters away from his fallen partner realized that he could not defeat them all. He threw an assortment of runes into the air and yelled, "TELECINETICGRABJUNKYARDTELEPORT!" The ranger's bag flew to the mage, and the mage disappeared in a purple flash.

Part 20: The Were-Dragon

The warrior came to with a scaly creature on his chest. "Get off me!" he yelled, swinging his scimitar at the creature's neck. The creature evaded the attack by flying away. As soon as the warrior got up, he saw the creature was coming in for another attack. Jumping to the side, the warrior reared his scimitars and yelled, "HOT!" The creature, obviously related to a dragon, spit a jet of flame at the warrior. Sweating, he sliced at it again. Jamie watched, stunned. The creature that saved his life looked like a dragon. Yet, it also looked human. And it was in trouble. The warrior was at the brink of killing it. Jamie knew he had to help.

As smoke rose in the air from the fire all around, Jamie rushed toward the warrior and dragon/person.

* * * * *

Meanwhile in the Square, Stip and the others were filling anything they could with water. Buckets, bowls, vials, jugs, even pointy hats, were filled in attempt to put out the roaring fire.

* * * * *

The warrior pinned the dragon/person down with one scimitar, and the other was poised to cut it's neck when Jaime yelled, "Heads up!" The last thing the warrior saw was a vial of flame heading for his face.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! OH GOD! OH GOD! OH ZAMORAK! HELP ME! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" He rolled on the ground trying to extinguish the fire. He pulled out some runes quickly and said,"OH- Junk-God-yard-Oh-Tele-God-port!" and disappeared in a burning purple light.

Jamie turned to the wounded Dragon/Person just as Stip and Rangerbane came into the clearing. "News update?" Jamie said.

"Ranger is dead." Stip said. "The mage got away, about 100 casualties. And when the mage left, he said Junkyard Teleport."

"Same with the warrior. This dragon thing helped me defeat the warrior. Come on, let's go inside the Palace and tend to it. The group picked up the dragon/person and carried it inside the Palace. A few guards appeared from various places ("Good it's over!" they said. "Wimps," said Stip). They chose a room and with a bed and no blinds open. But now without the moonlight on it anymore, the dragon/person began to change. Scales turned into skin and armour. Claws turned into hands. The tail became a butt, and the wings became a dagger sheath a pack, and an empty quiver. Soon standing in front of Jamie, Rangerbane, and Stip (munching on some cheese) was a man in rune armour.

"Uh huh? Where am I... oh not again..." the new man said. Jamie and Stip (Rangerbane just said "Just good he's not a dragon any more) stood there mesmerized. "I am Bustergod. And my more scaly me is Chrome. I am a were-dragon."
