New Forum in the Village

A new forum has been created within the Section known as the Village Square. It is called the Village Reviews and is moderated by Knux, a keen writer and promoter of member’s work. The forum mainly consists of headings with links to the stories in the Village Library for our enjoyment. I asked Knux to give the lowdown on it all and this what he had to say;

The idea of the new forum is for authors to get major feedback on their stories, to see how to improve, and what spots on their shoes are already polished. My goal is to let any and every author get better from the forum. When I say 'every' I mean it too. The forum is not just for stories in the library. The forum is for anybody who has a story on a forum like the Literary Society, and even a story posted on a different website. The only rule at large in the forum is that you must post a topic/post reviewing someone's piece of literature, or media. Movie scripts, poems, letters, addresses; you can post anything, as long as it has to do with writing and/or literature. I first thought up this idea back in October of 2003, just after I had finished the rough draft of my Chronicles of Falador book. A lot of what drove me was the fact that the library, or "tavern tales" of RS.com wasn't very open to all kinds of literature. In fact, my Chronicles of Falador was rejected four times. I don't know why, but I think it's because it was too long. So after hiker agreed, he told me to start gathering stories. I did, and that's when I became the 'Village librarian'. Then I edited all the stories, and coded some of them. Then one day Hiker e-mailed me and said it was time to get this project off the ground. No more stalling, no more waiting. I send the stories I had to hiker and he put them up on the website. Sometime around late summer of 2004 I presented hiker with another idea. The idea was official RV characters. These characters would be 3D renders and would each have a job in the village. And then of course each character would have their own story and they all seemed to mix together well. There was even a 'bad guy' thought up to be used. Stupid me, I never thought of a character to be the librarian. Well hiker, as busy as he is, always seems to be a step ahead of the entire village. He 'met' *cough* created *cough* Bob and so Bob became the Village Librarian. You'll even hear about him in the review forum. A month ago, I presented hiker again, with an idea for completing the project, and updating the library. (You'll notice it has a slight new layout and more links.) Well after weeks of e-mails back and forth, Hiker made his final decisions and told me to get cracking on it. The review forum actually has multiple purposes. It gives author’s feedback, as well as RuneVillage. The top stories of the library will be compiled into a book and sold in the RV Store. There are also ideas of including a 'History of RV' in the book, and a few other things. So now we have the review forum. It took a while to get the forum set up. With all the posts and then put their URLs into the library and all, but it was no big sweat. Really, this whole deal has been a big goal and dream of mine. I think that's why hiker allowed me to 'take command' of it. He knew how much it would mean to me if I were the one to head it all up. But my goal isn't complete yet. I don't think it ever will be. With new villagers means new writers, and the goal is to open up boundaries for anybody who wants to write. There are far too many people to thank, including all the admins, writers, and villagers backing me. Most the spotlight of the library lands on Bob and me. I just pray I'm a good mirror for the villagers, reflecting their image into the crowd. And Bob, well... Being the nub he is reflects most of the staff pretty well. -Knux

So when the shelves of your bookstore don’t tempt you and you want something to pass the hours when you are not playing Runescape, here is the place be. The lengths of the stories are varied so you should find something to fit the time you have. As well as which, if you fancy yourself as a writer, let Knux know and see if you can get your story in the Library. Don’t forget that stories will be selected to go into a projected book for the Village Store. We will of course bring you news of that as and when it happens.
