Interview with Memphus

Whom or what introduced you to the village?

I stumbled upon it a few years ago while looking for fansites about Runescape, for guides and tips and such. Probably through Google or Yahoo search engines.

What persuaded you to join the village and not some other fan site?

Well RuneVillage allowed me to view the forums without registering, unlike the other fansites, so I was able to read posts without logging in. Eventually I wanted to state my opinions on some of the discussions, so I signed up for an account.

When did you get the idea for the Kostume Kings Costume Contest(KKCC)?

Last spring I decided that I wanted to host a costume contest of my own, this one would be much larger than any of the others, and it would be exclusive to RuneVillage. However such an event could not be run alone, so I took in the assistance of my good friends Dustin and Nintendodude, both of whom I knew to have great costume judging skills. For the second contest (the official one we had recently), Dustin and I became pretty much best friends, and we had planned it for many months, so I guess we forgot about Nintendodude.

Who thought of the KKCC event you our Dustin?

Originally it was my idea, the first contest. Then later in the year after having the first contest, Dustin told me that we should do an Official Event because all the cool people were doing it, so we decided to make a sequel to our previous contest. So the idea of a costume contest was mine, but the idea of an official event was Dustin's.

Was the event as hectic as you thought it would be?

We expected it to be a lot of work, and we expected many entries. But I had no idea that judgeing so many costumes would be so much work. The event wasn't exactly "hectic", it was just a big time-chewer, taking away much of my free time. But I think getting to check out that many cool costumes, and handing out giant multi-million dollar prizes was well worth it.

If you were offered the position of Moderator would you accept or deciline? Why?

At the moment I would not, as my "Sorcerer of Saradomin" rank is more unique than a moderator rank, because there is just so many moderators. It's lost that specialness.

How did you get labeled as the purple king?

As soon as those purple robes, the ones you purchase in Canifis werewolf town, came out, I have worn the purple hat and boots (and sometimes gloves) to every single RuneVillage event I go to. Especially Wilderness events, such as the Black vs White Knight wars, and PK trips. People started pointing out "Hey there's Memphus wearing that hat again", so eventually I just took that on as my role.

What do you do besides Runescape and Runevillage?

I work two jobs, one as an independant Software Programmer, where I program stuff and sell it (mostly peices of codes for small games), and another job as a referee in hockey (I hate it, but it pays great, $25/hour). As well, I play hockey, and I go to school (currently completeing High School).
