Interview with ex-chat moderator, Nateman
Administrator's say its fair, chat moderators say its down right outrageous. Lots of good people lost due to a long lasting feud between the admins and the moderators. How will this effect the new wave of administrators and moderators? Only time will tell.
I recently sat down with an ex-chat mod by the name of Nateman. I wanted to know what happened and why he was not a mod anymore. This is what he had to say in this excusive interview.
I asked Nateman why he wasn’t a chat moderator anymore, his reply was:
Because I've built up a number of strikes against my account, by doing stuff such as logging in [Chat] as George Dubya. Which, according to the administrators, is sending a bad message to the users and encouraging them to spam, flame, ect...
I then proceed to ask him did he think it was fair for the administration to take such an action, De-Modding him of his position as Chat Moderator.
He then proceeded to tell me what he thought. His reply was:
Obviously, no. Neither do most of the chat moderators and the chat users. Hiker [Site Admin] even said to me that a number of the strikes that got me this de-modding were unfair.
The next question i asked was would you do the something if you were a mod again? [Behavoir Wise]
He told me:
Yes, I would. According to numerous people that witnessed the events of that day, it was a pretty fun time. My job is... or “was”... to maintain a safe place for the chat users to have fun. The enjoyment of the chat users ranks higher on my list of priorities than my own well-being.
I then asked him, did anyone at the time of the event feel disrespected or felt like they were being made fun of at the time?
Nateman then promptly told me that:
Not at all. In fact, many others, such as John Kerry, being played by Dave joined in on the festivities.
Was Dave Demoded aswell?
No, he quit over the stupidity of the situation. It was creating too much stress for him, but yes, he did get strikes against his account for the incident.
That bought me on to my next question and it was, if Nateman had a chance to get his job back would he take it?
His reply was:
Yes, of course. That's why I'm currently discussing this issue with Hiker, but it seems to have taken a back-seat to the new moderators.
I then asked Nateman a personal question about how he felt about the chat and did he feel he got the shaft in the situation. He then started to tell me how he felt about the chat and how he has been getting the short end of everything by the administration.
Yes, I do feel like I got the short end of all of this. I've been getting the short end of a lot of things by the administration. Basically, the way the chat is handled behind-the-scenes is one big mess.”
I then asked Nateman did he think the chat will get better or get worse in the time coming? And if Meepster [Coder Of The Chat Room] just close the chat for good?
He then had this to say:
It depends on what course of action is taken by the administration. The problems have never lied in the mythical spammers and flamers in chat, but they lie behind the scenes in the mod/admin fights. Administrators that have more posts in the Chat Moderator forum than they have minutes in chat shouldn't be the one making all our decisions for us, but that's just the opinion of the majority of the Chat Moderators; what do we know?
I then proceeded to ask Nateman how did he feel about the chat rank being destroyed? [ The ChatRank Is Now Back ]
He then replied saying:
Getting rid of the Chat Administrator rank was the worst decision ever made concerning the chat. Almost as bad as giving the rank almost no power, or authority.
I feel that the administration is taking back its efforts to repair the rift between Chat Moderators and the Administrators. The administrators won't relinquish control of the chat room to people who know what they're doing.
I then asked Nateman if there was anything else he would like to added before the interview was wrapped up and he said.
Admins don't let Chat Moderators get promoted. They would have to resign in order to get a shot at being promoted to Board, Forum Moderator Etc...
