The RuneScape
Rules... Explained
In this article I have listed the official Runescape rules, the
rules everyone agrees to when making an account followed by a brief description
of the rules by myself to attempt to make them clearer for you.
Rule 1 - Offensive language
You must not use any language which may be considered by others to be offensive,
racist or obscene.
This means basically if you would not like it said to you then do not say it.
The rule does not cover minor offences such as idiot or noob and it does not cover
when the filter catches you cussing example **** off.
Rule 2. – Item scamming
You must not scam or deceive other players. Lying to other players for your
own personal gain is not in the spirit of the game.
This means lying to gain any items, for example “trust tests”, leading people
into the wilderness, trimming and saying an item is rare when it is not. It also
covers when you switch items in a trade, all these things are reportable.
Rule 3 – Password scamming
Asking/trying to persuade another player to give you their password for any
reason is against the rules and will not be tolerated.
This means that you must not ask for anyone’s password for any reason, you may
not lie to get people to change their passwords. This rule also covers asking
for or trying to trick people into giving you their bank pins.
Rule 4 – Cheating/bug abuse
You must not use or attempt to use any cheats or errors which you find in our
software. Any exploits which you find must be immediately reported to Jagex through
Customer Support.
This means that if you find a bug you must report it and not abuse it, the exceptions
are bugs which do not affect other people and ones which you have notified Jagex
of. The general rule is if you find a bug report it and don’t try to recreate
it.
Rule 5 – Jagex staff impersonation
You should not attempt to impersonate Jagex staff in any way, for any reason.
The names of Jagex Staff will have a gold crown next to their name when speaking
in-game. Anyone who does not have a gold crown next to their name is not Jagex
staff.
This means you should not pretend to be a moderator, even as a joke and you must
not say you are a relative of a moderator if you are not. This rule also covers
impersonating player moderators. You should also not make a username that implies
that you are part of the Jagex staff.
Rule 6 – Account sharing
Each account must be used by one person. Account sharing is not allowed. You
may not sell, transfer or lend your account to anyone else, or permit anyone else
to use your account, and you may not accept an account offered to you.
This ones pretty self explanatory, each account must be used by one person, they
must not be sold or given away, and you may not allow anyone on your account for
any reason, even if it’s just to use the official forums.
Rule 7 – Removed. - Frogger
Rule 8 – Multi logging
You may create more than one Runescape account, but if you do, you may not
log into more than one account at any time, and they must not interact with each
other in any way. This includes ‘Drop trading’ or any other forms of item transfer.
This rule covers both Runescape classic and Runescape 2, you cannot play with
2 characters at all, even if they are on different versions of the game and on
different worlds. You cannot transfer items from your main to your noob accounts
and visa versa, Jagex has an item tracking system now so you can and will be caught
if you break this rule.
Rule 9 – Encouraging others to break rules
You must not encourage others to break any of the Runescape rules.
This includes telling people how to bug abuse, teaching them how to scam people
or telling them where to obtain an auto miner.
Rule 10 – misuse of customer support.
You must not misuse customer support, this includes threatening or reporting
an innocent person, or by supplying false information.
This includes messaging spam to them, reporting people who haven’t broken rules,
making up false rumours about people and sending them in or encouraging people
to send messages for you.
Rule 11 – Advertise website
You are not allowed to actively advertise in the Runescape game or Runescape
forums. This includes advertising any website or product and no web addresses
are allowed. Telling other people any web addresses is not allowed.
This rule covers trying to tell people URLs basically, saying RuneVillage has
a quest guide for that or RuneHQ is good is not reportable, however telling people
to go to rshacksite.tk is. The rule also covers giving out your messenger names.
Rule 12 – Real world item trading
Runescape items must only be exchanged for other items/services within the
game. Exchanging Runescape items for items or other benefits in other online games,
real life money or real life benefits are not allowed.
This rule covers sig selling and mostly ebay, you cannot sell your character,
your items or the time you put into your character.
Rule 13 – Asking for personal details.
For our players privacy and safety, you must not ask for personal details such
as full name, home address or telephone number from other players.
As well as the things mentioned this covers asking for their messenger details
and credit card details.
Rule 14 – Misuse of Official Forums
You must not misuse our official Runescape forums. The code of conduct (linked
at the top of the forums) what is, and is not, acceptable.
There is a code of conduct as explained and also rules at the top of each official
forum detailing what you can and cannot say, it’s also worth reading the stickies
as they contain additional information. Misuse of the forums can remove your privilege
of using them and may result in in-game punishment
